Anti-Social Media Experiment - Update

Just wanted to drop in at the half-way mark of my anti-social media experiment.  I have to say that it's going well.  I pre-wrote a bunch of blogs that have been posting, and I've found that being away from social media has given me a fresher outlook on the things I want to write about in blogs.  I have cheated a couple of times and replied to a comment or two on here, but other than that, I've stayed away from social media.

The thing I miss most is chatting with writer friends over on LJ. The thing I miss least is Facebook.  I haven't even been tempted to go there.

The last two weeks have made me really think about how I'm using social media and the internet to connect to my friends and to people I don't know yet.  For example: I have a Deathday Letter "fan" page, but I hardly visit it.  Which isn't fair to the people who take the time to "like" it.

But I've also really enjoyed the clarity that not being constantly bombarded by social media has given me.  So as I finish up my last two weeks of anti-social media, I'm trying to think of ways to integrate these tools into my life that aren't so distracting.

I'm away at a conference for the rest of the week, so I probably won't get a chance to post.  So, have a great week!

  1. Ironically, I'm here because I clicked on the link on Facebook. You probably have syndication set up on Networked Blogs or something.
