The Bigger Picture

I think I love writing so much about carpe diem because I  often take a moment to look around and realize I've lost sight of what's important.  I allow my job or writing deadlines or petty arguments to rule my life.

I think that we–writers and artists in particular–tend tend to get bogged down in the weeds of the process.  We waste our time worrying about which bloggers are reading our books or how many adds we have on Goodreads.  Those things are certainly important to a small degree but selling books existed before blogs and Goodreads.

The important thing is that we keep sight of the things that are important.  Living life, our families and friends, doing things that make us happy.  Everything else is just window dressing.

    1. Thanks, man. I love when she says "write more awesome books, I guess." Because you know what? For a long time there, like years even, I forgot what this was all about.

    2. Right? I think a lot of writers do. We get all caught up in chasing trends or comparing our books to other people's books and wondering why they have more sales. But in the end, it's all crap. All that matters is writing awesome books.
