Summer Reading

Hey all!  I haven't forgotten about you.  Just enjoying the summer.  Busy doing fml stuff and editing The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley.  I'll try to blog a little more often, but it'll probably be quiet around here until August.

But I figured I'd share what I'm reading and see what you all are reading too!

Recently I've read:

September Girls by Bennett Madison (FANTASTIC)
The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta (OK, that one was a cheat...I've already read it.)
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
Joyland by Stephen King

Here's what's by my bed ready to read!

The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson
Finnikin of the Rock, Froi of the Exiles, and Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta
Fragments by Dan Wells
Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff
Arclight by Josin McQuein
The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Homeland by Cory Doctorow
Nexus by Ramez Naam

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, and there are a TON of great books coming out in the next couple of months, so I've got a lot of reading to do!

Now you tell me:  what are you reading this summer?

  1. I know Josin! She's so talented.

You already know most of what I'll be reading, since you sent it to me, but I'll also add:

    Reality Boy, by A.S. King
    The Raft, by S.A. Bodeen
The Drowned Cities, by Paolo Bacigalupi

Then I'll probably spend some time with some adult fantasy. Probably Rothfuss and maybe Weeks.

    1. I'm dying to read Reality Boy. You'll have to let me know how it is.

Nooooooo! Not Rothfuss. Please save yourself. The Name of the Wind wasn't bad...even though Kvoth was a total Wesley Crusher (Mary Sue) and grated on my nerves. The Wise Man's Fear, however, was a travesty...a crime against books. Aside from going NOWHERE, Kvoth is a total jackass...it's one long scene in particular though that ensured I'd never read the third book. Read this review...actually, you don't even have to read the review since it might contain some spoilers, just look at the graphs. The graphs are spoiler-free (and hilarious). http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/38361485

I keep meaning to pick up The Drowned Cities, but I didn't connect to the characters in Shipbreaker and it always falls off my TBR list.

    2. I'll have to check that out. I loved Reality Boy. Much less magical realism than most of Amy's books, but also perhaps her strongest story premise yet.

What adult fantasy would you recommend? Have you read Brent Weeks? Scott Lynch? Those are two others I was considering next.

Keep it clean, keep it classy, and jokes are always appreciated.
