Fear of the Unknown

I think one of the best ways to generate conflict in stories is to thrust them into the unknown. Seeing how characters react to and work through unknown and different situations tells you a lot about who they are.

Just as in life, there is comfort in routine and in the reality we're accustomed to, but sometimes we have to step out of that zone and try something scary.

Because, what's life about if we're not really living it?
